It's Your Prom!
By Miroslav Versegi
The young girls flock to the stores in swarms, each one planning their perfect look. Each boy hopes to find the right girl to take, while the girl anxiously hopes she's asked to the prom. It's a lot of pressure, it's a lot of anxiety to deal with. Yet, when the time comes to go to your prom, you are going to want to be like Cinderella at her ball.
How do you make them look? What are some do's and don'ts this year in the world of prom fashion?
Some things are still fairly cliché, yet other trends continue to move along with the time. Still, other trends make return appearances. This year you want to go with style. Your first tip, be happy with who you are.
The pressures of being the 'prettiest' 'thinnest' or 'most chic' sits heavily on the mind of many young girls. As much as the dress you pick is to impress your date, for many girls it's the challenge of 'winning' among the other girls at the prom.
It's not likely you're going to be looking for a department store dress, so you're probably already flipping through magazines, checking off all the dresses you like best. Then you begin to scope out the trendy dress shops hoping to catch that 'one in a million' dress. Desperate to find something that is for you and only you. Girls cringe if they think another girl may be wearing the same dress at the prom. More importantly, if that dress looks better on another girl than it does on them. Don't be afraid; just be willing to take the time to pick out the right dress. This may be an all day affair with you and your girlfriends, mom, or even an older sister. Rather than stressing, begin by deciding you are going to have fun. Then, try on everything and anything you find alluring. See how it fits. See if the dress shop does alterations. Some shops will even do special touches to add a touch of individuality to your dress. It may cost a bit, so plan your budget well.
If you are lucky enough to have a mother or grandmother who can sew exceptionally, then this would be the time to get creative. Work with her and your desired look. The best way to ensure a unique dress is to have one made 'for you'.
This year' hair styles tend to be moving towards the up-do's again. Hair pulled up, with strands pulled wildly out of place.
Whether you wear that little black number or something bold and sweet, you'll sweep the floor with confidence and poise, so be happy with yourself and the look will follow.
